Scenario context
Sprocket Industries is trying to reduce lead-time variability so it can become the vendor of choice for responsiveness in the aerospace and defense sector.
The current-state problem is structural. Orders are being released into the system faster than the constrained work centre can absorb them. As work enters faster than the system can process it, work-in-progress rises, queues lengthen, lead-time dispersion increases and promise-date reliability weakens.
Management then compensates through rescheduling, expediting and overtime. These actions may protect individual orders in the short term, but they add further disruption to the overall system.
